Please for you and your family's sake do not get fooled by the initial look of this place. It is all a slap job. I used to live here 7 years ago after the first building was "redone" after it burned down. I was excited that they were being redone because I've lived in highwood my whole life and the apartments used to be no better than any other projects. It had many nicknames, one being "the roach." I'll let you figure out why. The others would be to vulgar to put on here. My first stay here 7 years ago wasn't as bad, but the walls true colors have started to bleed through as the years have passed I guess. They will give you all these great incentives that sound to good to be true to get you in, trust me they are. "First months rent free", "as low as $500 security deposit." But how can a "luxury apartment" offer so much money off? Because they put no money into it. First of all very simply there is nothing luxury about this place. I've said alot so I will just start listing off every problem you can expect, and that me and my family have encountered. AT&T came to install out cable and internet, I wanted the best internet package, the installer laughed when he looked in our walls, "the wiring is absolute garbage and I cannot install the internet you want to these ancient wires." Management's response, "it would cost a fortune to rewire all these buildings." When my wife and I go on the balcony to have a drink in the summer, we have to keep checking our glasses to make sure the millions of spiders dangling above our heads dont fall in them. Management's response, " We don't have exterminators come spray, we'll have maintenance come dust your balcony." What? The yellow water is a fact, it's disgusting and we're nervous to bathe our kids in it. Managers response, "it would cost a fortune to redo all the pipes for all these buildings." The elevator has been down for over 40 days and I live on the fourth floor. The management is misleading people in saying that is is serviced daily to be sure it is not malfunctioning. This is not so. Maintenance resets it during working hours but if it sets on the first floor it stays there until reset again. In mornings or evenings it does not work.
Also - we cannot change our own filters. The furnace fan "burned" out last night at 4am. It was changed by 10am, which is nice, but the issue was due to negligence. The filters (cheapest ones ever) were completely filthy. The new fan sounds like a commercial one that should be outside. It is extremely loud.
I have lived here six years. This new corporate ownership is not one I would recommend giving your hard earned money to. Very very disappointing since they took over.
