The Chicago Theological Seminary, located in the Hyde Park area of Chicago, was established in 1855, making it the city’s oldest institution of higher learning. Nestled beside the University of Chicago and penned in by three popular parks, the seminary is surrounded by the attractions and lifestyle hubs that support student living in the city. Both men and women can rent a college apartment at the Chicago Theological Seminary as they pursue one of several graduate degrees associated with Religious Studies. The school is a seminary of the United Church of Christ, but is also certified by the United Methodist Church and partners with the Metropolitan Community Churches.
Today, the Chicago Theological Seminary enrolls about 190 students, many of whom reside in off campus housing. These students come from more than 20 religious denominations and traditions, though about 40 percent identify with the United Church of Christ. As part of student living at the seminary, students may pursue a Master of Divinity, Master of Arts in Religious Studies, Master of Sacred Theology, Doctor of Ministry or Doctor of Philosophy degree as they prepare for leadership within the church and community.
By renting a college apartment, students are able to enjoy a long list of attractions in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighboorhood. Midway Plaisance Park bridges Jackson and Washington Parks to form a large green space near the seminary that is ideal for rest and recreation during the leisure hours. In addition, off campus housing is near Doc Films, the Medici restaurant and the 59th Street L stop.
