American InterContinental University traces its roots to 1970, when it was founded by an American couple in Lucerne, Switzerland. Over the years, AIU has spread student living to campuses located in Atlanta, Los Angeles, London, Dubai, and most recently, in Houston, Texas. Since 2003, the university has been educating students in Houston to prepare them for careers in a variety of fields. Those who find student housing near the Houston campus benefit from an education in the nation's fourth largest city, which is a center of international business, technology development, and home to some of the largest corporations in the U.S. Today, more than 24,000 undergraduates and about 2,500 postgraduates reside in a university apartment or dormitory while pursuing a degree at American InterContinental University.
AIU offers Associates, Bachelors and Masters degrees in a wide variety of academic specialties. In Houston, these degrees are conferred through four schools: the School of Business, School of Criminal Justice, School of Design and School of Information Technology. The Houston campus also offers a weekend MBA program that benefits from the city's presence as a major business center.
Because students at American InterContinental University often engage in online learning and in non-traditional programs, off campus housing is an important element of student living. Convenient university apartments are available off of the Sandy Springs stop on Houston's metro system, and near attractions, such as the sprawling Perimeter Pointe shopping center.
