All About

Living in Spelman College, GA

There are few colleges in the U.S. that can claim to be truly groundbreaking, but Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, holds that distinction. Originally founded in 1881 as the Atlanta Baptist Female Seminary, the school received its full collegiate charter in 1924. That makes it the first school in the country to be recognized as both historically black and all-female. Spelman has continued to stay true to its roots to this day, and is recognized as one of the top schools in the country for both women and African American scholars. Hundreds of students rent university apartments in Atlanta every year to attend this presitigious institution.

Not only is the college historic in nature, but it has also been recognized in terms of the quality of education it provides. U.S. News and World Report places it in the top 50 schools in the country in terms of producing Fulbright Scholars. It also has the second-highest rate of African American graduates who go on to attend medical school. In addition, it has graduated a number of notable alumni and leaders of industry over the years.

Undoubtedly, the school's location in Atlanta helps attract the best and the brightest, many of whom opt for off campus housing. Going to a new school is exciting, but attending a world-class institution in a major metropolis is even better. Renting college apartments off campus helps students maintain their independence and get used to living in a big city, not to mention it puts them closer to all the attractions of Atlanta.
