I'm never confused on why Alaqua has bad reviews. The office staff has been nothing but nice to me and my family while living here. Maintenance has been great as well.
My family and I relocated here to Florida from California a few months ago and we are so thankful to the staff here for making our transition so easy and welcoming! We moved here relying on my pictures online and we were even more pleased with how beautiful the units are! These are by far the nicest apartments we have ever lived in! And the pool here is amazing! The staff throw wonderful get togethers for the residents. We are beyond thankful to live in such a beautiful oasis and enjoy our family time here. We look forward to the next year of resort type living in this wonderful and friendly community!
My wife and I were residents for 15 months. We paid our overpriced rent on time every month. (Nearly $1500 for a 2 bedroom and a storage closet. ) upon moving out, we cleaned our apartment through and through. Leaving behind only an isolated stain in the back corner of the master bedroom carpet in the space less than the size of 1 x 1.
Our deposit was about $1200 in and after moving out we received an invoice from Alaqua insisting that they will be keeping nearly half of our deposit.
The reason they gave us was that they had replaced ALL OF THE CARPET THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE APARTMENT, including all of the carpet in the guest bedroom and also sent us a bill for fumigating the apartment. These bills alone amounted to around $500. When I receive these invoices in the mail they also provided two black-and-white, grainy low-quality, photos of the single, individual stain on the carpet that they said was reason enough to replace all of the carpet in the entire apartment. They provided no evidence reason at all why they needed to fumigate the unit either. There was never any offensive odors in our apartment and we had neighbors and visitors to attest to that. Yet after contacting them to dispute these charges, they are refusing to return our money.
What they saw was an opportunity, and a way to transfer costs to somebody else whenever possible. What they didnt know is that I have held a Florida real estate license and I know what the law says landlords can and can not charge for. Alaqua, YOU KNOW that stain simply needed a steam cleaning But you know that the law states that you cant bill a tenant for that, so you chose to just take the opportunity to replace all of the carpet in the unit on MY dime.
You would also think that youre a good word and reputation as a company would be worth more than $500.
I cant STAND this place, including the manager, Camy who is arrogant and snobby. This was by far the worst living experience ever. Glad I'm a homeowner now.
The grounds are not nearly as attractive as they were when I first saw the property -- dead plants, dog excrement, leaking hoses washing away mulch and topsoil, overflowing garbage cans, etc.
Unorganized, incompetent staff at the front office. Took me 2 months and several phone calls and visits to even RENEW my lease. Guess they don't want me paying the outrages rent to them. I absolutely hate living here and regret signing a new lease.
