I have lived at 215 C St. for five years, always paid my rent on time and never caused any issues. I am on a month-to-month lease. I recently noticed roaches in my apartment. They are doing construction in the hallways and the exterminator said that the roaches have been living in the walls and the construction has "stirred them up" so now they are entering apartments at the various access points because it is an old building. The exterminator said that there are holes along all baseboards and around the gas lines behind the stove. The building is doing nothing to plug up these holes/access points. He put down traps, but they are still in the apartment. I notified Gables that I will be vacating immediately because I cannot live with roaches in the building. They are charging me a months rent after my move out date because I did not give 30 days notice. Roaches were not an issue when I signed the lease and I certainly would not have signed it if I had known roaches were living in the walls and had easy access into my apartment. On top of charging me rent for a month that I won't even be living there, they are making me go to another apartment building 30 minutes away to drop off my keys and are not scheduling a final inspection of my apartment before I vacate. Bottom line- do not live at 215 C St SE unless you are comfortable living with roaches.
Reasonable rates; nice neighborhood. Great leasing experience, but very difficult to schedule meeting to pick up keys and move-in on time. Plan on a 2 hour delay because they do not have staff on-site.
I have lived at 215 C St. for two years and have had a great experience. The building is kept clean and is usually quiet. You can't beat the location in Washington, DC.
I have been resident since 1999 as a freshman in congress, a lot of people ask why do I keep apartment in DC. One I work there, two we have friends and family stay there when they are in DC. Location, location and location.
The only reason to live in this building is the great location and maintenance staff. I'm approaching my 2nd year as a resident and while I love my actual apartment and don't really want to leave, I've been repeatedly disappointed with the management staff and the value I'm getting for the money here. Especially upsetting to see studios listed on the website for LESS than I'm currently paying in rent - doesn't make me feel very appreciated as a loyal customer.
