Living in Georgetown University, DC

For well over two centuries, Georgetown University has been one of the most well-regarded colleges in the United States. Located in the heart of Washington, D.C., the private research university not only offers students an academic experience like few other schools in the country, but given its location, it offers a rich college experience whether students live in dorms or in an off campus apartment.

Georgetown University can trace its roots back to the days before Washington, D.C. was even founded. In 1789, America's first bishop John Caroll laid the groundwork for the school's founding and three years later classes began. Since then, the school has greatly expanded and now more than 7,000 undergraduate students experience university living at the school.

Georgetown's academic reputation is well earned. The school offers an impressive 48 different majors along with numerous fields of study. Thanks to where it's located, Georgetown has also become well-known for its political instruction and some big names have graduated from the school including former president Bill Clinton and former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates.

Although its academic tradition is certainly impressive, it is not the only aspect of student living at Georgetown. The school also has a long history of athletic success, particularly its men's basketball program. As a member of the Big East, the Hoyas have one of the most competitive programs in the country year in and year out.

Of course, the real highlight of Georgetown is that it's situated in the nation's capital. With such prime real estate, there is no lack of things to do and see. Whether one wants to check out any of the Smithsonian museums or tour the many landmarks, they are all a short distance from any student apartment.
