What Renters Like and Dislike

What Renters Like and Dislike About Thousand Oaks

Proximity to a large park, access to the freeway within a few blocks and just a short drive to work. It takes me 10 minutes for-to-door.

Great schools near by. Very dog friendly. Good for bike riding on and off trails. Lots of places to eat and go out to.

It's quite. Nice parks nearby. The kids play outside and everyone is either walking, riding bikes or running. Plenty of restaurants and shopping within the city.

I love being able to walk or ride my bike to pick up groceries or eat at restaurants. I enjoy my neighbors and like that everyone is respectful of each other. I enjoy the walkability of my neighborhood.

There are many parks and hiking trails around. There are two different malls, a large theatre, several movie theatres, and good bike paths and sidewalks for getting around with out a car.

EVERYTHING TO KNOW ABOUT RENTING AN APARTMENT IN THOUSAND OAKS, CA

Looking for apartments for rent in Thousand Oaks? Located in Ventura County, Thousand Oaks is on the west end of what is known as “The Valley” – part of the greater Los Angeles metroplex. The Ventura Freeway, the 101, runs through Thousand Oaks — providing a straight shot to downtown Los Angeles, which is approximately 40 miles away.

The name “Thousand Oaks” comes from the prevalence of oak trees in the area. With approximately 129,000 residents, Thousand Oaks is the second-largest city in Ventura County. It has a slightly larger percentage of retirees than average (18 percent compared to 14 percent nationally) but also has its share of young professionals and families.

THE BEST NEIGHBORHOODS TO FIND APARTMENTS FOR RENT IN THOUSAND OAKS

Thousand Oaks is more of a residential suburban location, so many rental opportunities may come in the form of single-family homes. But if you are seeking apartments in Thousand Oaks, it also has its fair share of quality, upscale apartment complexes. Check out these neighborhoods:

  • Dos Vientos: Located southwest of the 101, Dos Vientos is nestled in the Santa Monica Mountains with access to trails and lots of nature.
  • Downtown Thousand Oaks: “Downtown” Thousand Oaks is not a real downtown with large skyscrapers, subways and a local deli. It’s the commercial area that runs along the 101 freeway with convenient access to shops and medical centers such as Kaiser Permanente.
  • Central Thousand Oaks: Located west of the Moorpark Freeway and north of the 101, Central Thousand Oaks offers many great apartments with amenities like swimming pools and modern appliances.
  • Lang Ranch: Lang Ranch is located in northeast Thousand Oaks. It offers a few parks, including the Sunset Hills Park, Oakbrook Neighborhood Park, the Sapwi Trails Community Park and the Lang Ranch Neighborhood Park.
  • Los Robles: Directly south of the 101, Los Robles is a great location if you want an easy commute with access to nature. Portions of Los Robles include the Los Robles Open Space, which offers hiking trails.
  • North Ranch: This area lies northeast of the 101, just adjacent to the middle portion of State Route 23 (Moorpark Freeway). North Ranch’s highly educated residents have an average commute of 20 minutes.
  • Rancho Conejo: Located in the western portion of Thousand Oaks, Rancho Conejo straddles the 101. It offers hiking via the Arroyo Conejo Trailhead.
  • Sunset Hills: You’ll find Sunset Hills west of route 23 in the northern portion of Thousand Oaks. It offers access to the Joel McCrea Wildlife Preserve.
  • Verdigris: Verdigris is a small area in the northeast portion of Thousand Oaks in the southern portion of Lang Ranch just north of the Lang Ranch Neighborhood Park.
  • Wildwood: This suburban neighborhood offers homes for rent as well as apartments, and plenty of green spaces.
