For nearly 70 years, Oakland, California, has been home to Patten College, an institution of higher learning that began as the Oakland Bible Institute with ties to the Christian Evangelical Churches of America. Today, students continue to rent apartments near Patten College as they seek to further their education in this encouraging atmosphere.

Patten College continues to focus on Biblical studies and church-related ministries, but students in nearby apartments can now take a number of courses that emphasize disciplines and professions outside of the church. The school now consists of the Division of Theological Studies, the Division of Arts, Sciences, and Business, the Division of Education, and the Division of Continuing and Extended Education.
