The Christian Theological Seminary was founded in 1855 as a place to train ministers for the Christian Church. Since that time it has expanded its offerings to provide individuals with a range of master's degree programs that remain spiritually focused. These offerings are intended to prepare open-minded students for meaningful careers in fields that are central to a person's religious faith. Being located in the heart of Indianapolis, the campus provides many opportunities for individuals to put their values into practice through community outreach and charitable organizations. This location also makes a number of attractive student living opportunities available.
CTS offers master's degree programs in Divinity, Multicultural Christian Education, Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Theological Studies. Each of the programs prepares students professionally and theologically for rewarding careers that enable individuals to put their faith to work by giving back to those in need of help. Despite the school's obvious religious leanings, it does not necessarily require students to accept any one doctrine. The school looks for individuals who come from a range of backgrounds and who have an open, curious mind.
At one point, CTS was a department of Butler University, but it split off in 1958. However, the campus is still located a stone's throw from the main Butler buildings. Being so close to a major university puts CTS in close proximity to many student apartments. Furthermore, the city of Indianapolis has numerous off campus apartments for individuals to choose from. The CTS campus is also located nearby to a number of attractions, including the Indianapolis Museum of Art and the Crown Hill Mausoleum. Being located so close to downtown, the campus is accessible from student apartments anywhere in the city.
