Ive lived in Tucson for over 20 years, never really wanting to buy a place out of concern that my career will take me elsewhere. Out of all the communities Ive lived in, Skyline Gateway is hands-down the best.

From its location to its funky architecture I have found a place I enjoy coming home to. The best part is that HSL, the company that owns Skyline Gateway, does not view every lease renewal as an opportunity to gouge residents with a significant rent increase. In fact, I just renewed my lease with a whopping $5 increase to my rent.... Having lived at properties where lease renewal can see a $50-$70 increase in rent (even after years of residence), I greatly appreciate HSLs lack of greed .

If Skyline Gateway doesnt work for your daily commute, I would strongly recommend looking into other HSL properties that would. Otherwise, Skyline Gateway is a fantastic place.

My wife and I lived here for 3 years as our first place. The location is great, especially if you like hiking the Catalinas. Unfortunately that's the only positive remark I can make about Skyline Gateway.

Outer Grounds:
Parking is all unassigned first come first serve (except for a couple special residents). If you get home after 4pm chances are you'll be walking far. The trash is not picked up frequently enough and is often overflowing. These were taken on different days in different locations. This attracts all sorts of wildlife mainly Javelinas. The exterior of the community has spots that are clearly left unpainted/unfinished. These areas have been this way through previous front office staff (they come and go often). The south-west entrance to the community is in total disarray and gets filled with water that sits for days.

Inner Grounds:
The inside of the community is actually somewhat a relief from the outside. Grass and trees are well kept. The pool was recently refinished with new furniture as well as the front office. Unfortunately that's where the renovations end.

Interior:
The units themselves are severely outdated. Hotpoint appliances, old wooden shutters, compact old washer/dryer that will damage your delicates. For some reason some units have fire places which waste a lot of space and you'll probably never end up using. The bathrooms are the size of a small walk in closet and the toilets were built for toddlers. Water gets shut off very frequently. These apartments were built back in the 80's and the plumbing is probably still original.

I have very much enjoyed my time at Skyline Gateway. The residents and management have been great. The only reason I am in fact leaving this community is that my current roommate is going to be leaving and I simply cannot afford to pay for the two bedroom unit by myself. If I in fact could I afford too I would not be moving. Skyline Gateway is a great community.
