Downtown Silverspring is a thrumming center of commerce and business, nestled in a quiet suburban enclave filled with slow-moving side streets, vast wooded areas and verdant, grass parks.
Transportation
At the center of town, not far from the scores of Downtown Silver Spring apartments, there's a metro station where residents can hop a train and get to Washington D.C.'s Union Station in a matter of minutes. There's also a local bus system, which runs throughout the community and the rest of Maryland's Montgomery County. For further commutes, road trips, or expeditions the Capital Bellway Highway is also nearby, which cuts through the District of Columbia and eventually works its way north up the east coast.
Parks and Recreation
While the center of town has a high-paced environment, the outer area is a scene of placid domesticity, characterized by the various parks like Fairview Road Urban Park and Woodside Park. The scenic, grassy retreats offer ample space to lounge and relax after work or throw around the ball with friends. On the south-end of the neighborhood is Jesup Blair Park, which has paved walking paths that are ideal for pushing strollers and rollerblading. The park has an array of tall evergreen trees that provide ample shade during warm Maryland summers, and it's also a good place to wait for the bus, which stops right across the street.
Education
Parents who live in a Downtown Silver Spring apartment can start their little ones on the path to success early on, with the great pre-elementary schools nearby. The Silver Spring Day School has received rave reviews on GreatSchools.org and so has the Silver Spring Nursery. For residents who commute to work in the morning, there's Silver Spring Child Care on Colesville Road, which offers a rich learning and social environment for many of the town's little residents. As they kids get older, they can matriculate into one of the local public schools like East Silver Spring Elementary, followed by the Argyle Middle School. Parents also have the option of sending their children to the Silver Spring Elementary School, where students will study side-by-side with pupils from around the globe.
Food
There is a wide variety of food options available within the burgeoning Maryland community of Silver Spring. The local Society Restaurant and Lounge on Georgia Avenue has a chic yet cozy environment that suits its motto: Good Food. Good People. Good Will. For Mediterranean cuisine, there's the Big Greek Cafe, while the Langano Ethiopian Restaurant is renowned for its fiery Vegetable Platter.
