Prep for holiday decorating
Decorating for the holidays is half the fun. Before you deck out your apartment with festive decorations, however, check with your property manager about your building’s policies; some may affect balcony, wall, lighting and tree decorations. For example, most buildings allow real Christmas trees as long as the tree is treated with fire retardant spray. (Some communities even offer free tree spraying!)
Make space for friends and family
Don’t be afraid to rearrange furniture for the evening to maximize your apartment’s usable space and increase seating. Typically, kitchen tables are placed against walls; moving these tables to the center of the room will allow you to utilize all sides for seating during parties. In addition, move items like magazine racks, bookshelves, or cookbooks (which take up floor or counter space) into a bedroom or other storage area so there’s more room for guests to mingle.
Storage solutions for holiday supplies
Tuck away holiday linens and decorations into storage ottomans or benches to maximize space. Check to see whether extra storage space is available in your apartment building, or consider renting a space through a storage facility. After all, you only use these decorations once a year — perhaps go in on a space together with a friend! And if you’re sick of storing gift wrapping paper in hard-to-reach places, check out this hanging gift wrap organizer: perfect for your apartment closet and only about $20 at the Container Store.
