How to Cut Your Entertainment Costs

Keeping money in your wallet and bank account doesn't necessarily have to squash your good times. There are ways to enjoy entertainment and save money. First things first, you need a budget. We feel like we're always beating the budget drum, but it's a drum you should tune into.

Start by writing down everything you spend money on over a two week or month period. They even make software applications to help you track your expenses (See Banking and Credit, Tips to Save Money). Review how much you spend on eating out and other entertainment costs.

After your two-week or month period is over, you'll have a benchmark to see where you spend your money and therefore where you can pinch pennies and dollar to put into savings.

Replace going out to the movies with game night or movie night at home. Feel the urge to sit in the theater, listening to other people munching popcorn? If you have to go, take your own, pre-popped popcorn from home. And make it a matinee, when ticket prices are lower.

Read. Just like you?re doing now. Remember books? They?re very entertaining and good for you. Fat free and mentally nutritious. And talk about cheap. You can get them for free at the library. What else is free these days? The Internet. It's definitely free at the library and entertaining for hours?days.

Bored and feeling like you're missing out? You're probably not missing anything, but get out and take a walk. Or go to the park. Take a picnic. Hang out and people-watch. You'll be amazed at what you see. Some people think spandex is still in style. Or that it ever was.

The best entertainment is your imagination. Use it. There are plenty of games still to be invented.
