Finding a job is all about networking. Online resources are incredibly full of information and listings. There are probably as many online resources for finding jobs as there are for finding a date. And that's saying something. Maybe you can find a job AND a date in the same online session. That's really taking care of business.
Once you find a potential job that interests you, apply and then follow up with an email several days later. Sending a resume and cover letter to a generic human resources mailbox doesn't necessarily translate your go-getter attitude to your potential employer. But your follow up will. And it will give them a personality to accompany how you look on paper -and get you one step closer to an interview.
Another network you can tap into is one you already have, but may not have thought about: friends, parents, teachers...basically anyone you feel like telling you're available and looking (desperately) for work.
As with online applications, be active and follow up. Your priorities aren't necessarily theirs just because you've been friends since 4th grad. Your enthusiasm will come across to those you are networking with. You may have known someone for years, but your work-related motivation may not be something they're familiar with. Impress doesn't just rhyme with success; it encourages it.
